i mis-spoke when i posted earlier that spring was here.  it seemed for awhile that we’d skipped spring and summer and gone right to winter again – 1 1/2 inches of snow the other day, along with rain, sleet and hail!!!

but… i can tell you that i am still hopeful that my daffodils and tulips may eventually bloom.  the Spring Wild Turkey has been spotted in our neighbourhood again this year, so i know that warm weather will be here soon!  i don’t have photographic proof this year, but i saw him strutting down our neighbours driveway, where he took off into the ravine behind their house.  last year, he showed up on Easter and warm weather wasn’t far behind.  so it must be coming… it MUST!

both Josh and I are afflicted with the worst kind of cold, second only to a summer cold.  the spring cold.  he’s been absolutely miserable and so have i… the only difference is, he can’t really tell us that he’s miserable in so many words.  so we have had about 2 weeks of screeching, whining, crying and generally more miserableness than the terrible 2’s usually mete out.  to add insult to injury, the poor little guy has had a fever a few times, and we think that his 2 year molars may finally be making a real appearance, due to the large amounts of drool – i am almost going to get the bibs back out again.

i keep telling myself that this is a stage, only a stage.  but sometimes i think i will be stuck wiping his chin for the rest of his life!

it was warm(ish) today in the glorious Capital District, so Josh and i ventured out for an afternoon walk since he was having no part of napping.  here are the 2 things we discovered that can be done on the first spring-like day when the snow is melting in copious amounts:

1. Puddle Stomping – self explanatory really, you simply walk down the street disregarding your mother’s instructions about not going in deep puddles, and stomp away!  the results are fabulous – you will have soaking wet shoes, socks and cuffs, and your mother’s jeans will be quite spotted with rainwater also!

2. When your shoes, socks and cuffs are so wet that further puddle stomping is impossible (or your mother picks you up and carries you inside), get your mother to take you for rides in your daddy’s office chair in the basement.  it’s oodles of fun!!

okay, so it’s not quite as white as, say, Oswego NY these days… but there was definitely a good layer of snow!

some highlights of our trip:

• Ikea – need i say more? what’s not to love about Swedish design with international flair, plus cute little candle lanterns (2 of which now grace my home)
• staying with Grandma & Grandpa at their house
• surprising my cousin Melanie at her baby shower – the shower was not a surprise, but me being there was TOTALLY a surprise!!
• Josh blowing out all of Uncle Jon’s birthday candles (he was “helping”!)
• Yorkdale… aaaaah, Yorkdale
• visiting Grammy, Auntie Tracy & 3 great cousins – Josh had the time of his life playing with Ethan, Landon & JJ. We had a big dinner with Grandpa French, Grandpa John & Grandma Joanne, Adam and Lindsay too.
• Tim Hortons, Swiss Chalet & Jack Astors – all of which must be experienced, you just can’t understand it otherwise 🙂
• visiting my Grandpa Ron & Lorraine (my birthmom) in Milford, part of beautiful Prince Edward County. That area is truly beautiful, all 4 seasons.
• the Glenora Ferry – big excitement for a certain little boy as we took the short trip across to the “mainland” on our way home

We had a good time visiting our many family members, although the visits all seemed a little too short as usual! And it’s good to be home again, back in our own beds. Josh found that he had become a big boy while he was away – he returned to find that his crib had moved to the basement, and in it’s place was a “big boy” toddler bed. He seems to be happy about this arrangement! We’ll see how the transition goes over the next few weeks.

Josh and I arrived home tonight around 8, having been travelling for a whole 12 hours.  Sheesh, i’m tired!  He crawled right into his new toddler bed, not seeming to really notice the absence of his crib, and went right to sleep!  Summary of our trip will follow tomorrow… i’m too tired to type straight right now!
