It’s no secret that I’m a fan of video games. There are too many video games, not enough time. But thanks to Twitch streams (and “Let’s Play” youtube videos), I don’t have to play every one to find good ones. Some gems have appeared early in 2017. I’ve already got some purchased and hopefully will have some free time to get into them soon, and there are some that I’m seriously interested in purchasing.
In no particular order, here they are:
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. When I learned about the Nintendo Switch, it was an instant pre-order. Josh has been Player 1 on this game, and he’s already beat the main storyline, but there’s so much to do in this world! It’s massive, not too silly, and the puzzles provide a good challenge.
- Horizon Zero Dawn. This PS4 exclusive combines Assassin’s Creed vertical tools with Tomb Raider’s exploration, which makes it fun on its own but the shining star is the plot. I’m a sucker for a good story, and this has nailed a brand new storyworld with excellence. The player is emotionally invested in the entire game for the entire time, and that’s a high achievement. The rumors of expansions make this a must buy. (Now, to convince Krista to let me buy a PS4 Pro!)
- Mass Effect Andromeda. I’ve never played any of the original 3, but everything I have heard about this franchise is that it dedicates itself to a great story. Despite some “interesting” player models, the storyline seems to be another solid hook. It’s got an immediate problem that reminds me of Stargate Atlantis where exploration isn’t just for science, it’s for survival.
Those are 3 games I’m looking forward to spending some time playing!
