So there we were, wearing our American flag tshirts, as we do every 4th of July (thanks for having a sale on those every year, Old Navy). Seems appropriate for us Canucks to try blending in on a national holiday such as the 4th.
We had just enjoyed a lovely dinner of homemade hamburgers grilled up on the back deck, and were moving on to the dessert portion of the evening. S’mores, made with roasted marshmallows, while sitting comfortably around our fire pit. Brian tuned up an appropriately American playlist on Spotify, and one of my all time favorite songs was playing: Springsteen’s Born in the U.S.A.
Brian and I were sitting there talking about something, when all of the sudden, something in the sky caught my eye. It was … a bird? A plane? Superman? NO… it was a bird, but no ordinary bird. It was an eagle. An eagle that was leisurely flapping his way across the sky above our yard, not a care in the world, looking quite fabulous. Brian thought that he might have given us a thumbs up, and that there was a glint of a reflection of Old Glory off of his wings, but I can’t confirm any of that. It was most definitely an eagle, though. On the 4th of July. Just out for a cruise.
I wish I had caught him in action, but I was too much in awe of him to remember to grab my phone. He’ll just have to live on in our hearts, whenever we think back to July 4th, 2017.
