Let me sum up. (and if you don’t know where that came from, go watch The Princess Bride and then you may come back)
It’s been awhile since I wrote anything here, mainly because we’ve just had too much going on. It was a busy fall and winter, and well, it’s a busy spring.
Recently, I made a significant shift at work, and moved into a world that I hope to stay in for a long time. Years ago, I was semi-dragged to a research meeting, and my interest was sparked.
Pushed a little by two physicians that I worked with, I started to realize that research administration might be a destination for me one day. When we moved to Rochester, I lost my world of work contacts and started over at a new academic medical institution, but not in Cardiology, and not in research.
Some time ago, I applied to a position in cancer research that seemed like the perfect combination of patient contact and admin work. I waited…and waited… and eventually figured that they had decided not to hire, as the position just sat there. Just over a month ago, I got an email asking me to interview for the position, if I was still interested. Oh, I was interested all right!
Fast forward – tomorrow is the start of my third week in this new position. It’s a challenge, no question. I’ve spent the last two weeks doing online education for human subject research, shadowing fellow study coordinators in clinic, and learning the nuts and bolts of research protocols. My new coworkers are a pleasure to be around, and are a pleasure to learn from. The atmosphere in our office is laid back and so pleasant. To be where I am right now is a gift, and I’m so thankful that God opened this door at this time.
