sweet nothings
my favourite time of day is when i’m putting Josh to bed. he’s all tired and sleepy (or not as the case may be), and usually picks that time to do something he’s never done before.
tonight, i had no success getting him to sleep in his crib. he was tossing and turning, checking to see if i was still there, standing up, wanting a “hug” (aka trying to get out of the crib), you name it, he tried it. so out of desperation and my own tiredness, i took him into our bed for cuddles, hoping it would bring on sleepiness.
i did eventually find success – but just before falling asleep, my dear sweet funny boy had a whole conversation with me in whispers. i’ve never heard him whisper before! he’s usually quite loud and rambunctious – when he has something to say, he wants to be heard all the way to Vermont! but as he lay there with his head on the pillow, holding my arm around him with his chubby little hands, he whispered his little story to me and i just about died from the sheer happiness of the moment.
i am treasuring up these moments and wondering how much longer i’ll get to experience them, before my little boy grows up too much to cuddle with his mommy for a few moments before sleep hits.
waaaaah!
i just need to officially let out a little whine… okay, there, now i feel better! i just finished watching the last, ever, ever, ever episode of 7th Heaven! on the air since 1996, and now it’s just plain done and overwith. i love that show. i know, i know, it’s all sicky sweet and they solve their problems so neatly… but in a world where reality tv rules the airwaves and everything else is cynical humour or worse, it was such a nice breath of fresh air. *sigh* i think i may need to observe a moment of silence next Monday night at precisely 8 pm.
finally, an official word in ENGLISH!
after months of jibber jabber and secret baby code, our son has finally said a word in english! now, we really have no way of knowing whether he understands the meaning of this word… but today in the bathtub, clearly and many times, he said… are you ready?…. BABY!
i call him baby all the time, so i suppose it’s quite natural that he should say that – and he continues to say it, with much pride in his newfound skill!
for all the cat lovers out there
courtesy of the kitten of the day website… i came across this delightful site.
we have words!
Josh is starting to talk, and he’s so pleased with himself! When i say talk, i guess i should clarify that – he has been talking for quite some time now, but only in Secret Baby Code, which is a language known only to him and a few other toddlers that we know. But now he’s starting to say things that sound like English! Whenever the phone rings or one of us is talking on the phone, he says “huwuh? huwuh!” over and over again – we are certain that this is a precursor to “hello”.
The most recent trick is that he now knows what doggies say – “Wooh! Wooh!” he says this whenever he sees a dog… or a horse… or a cat… oh well! When we ask him “What do doggies say?” he responds with “Wooh! Wooh!” and puckers his mouth up in a really funny way while he says it. I have no idea where he learned this, since we don’t have a dog and neither do any of our friends or neighbours here. The only dog he ever sees up close is a little black and white Scottish terrier that we sometimes see on our walks. So how he figured out that dogs say woof is beyond me!!
