The Vivanno – or, why I love Starbucks

anybody who knows us knows that we LOVE most things about that place… a new one opened up a couple of years ago within walking distance of our house, and we were on cloud 9. we always buy our beans from there – that’s our big splurge. and for awhile, Josh was a regular fixture ordering chocolate or vanilla milk drinking boxes. he was on a first name basis with a few of the baristas. we are thankful that our favorite place to hang out is not on the list of stores closing.

and i personally am also thankful for the introduction of the Vivanno. i’ve been treated to a couple within the last week or so by my dear husband. they are YUMMY, and as soon as i can figure out how to duplicate the orange/mango/banana/matcha one, i’ll be hauling the blender out and making them for breakfast regularly! that is the yummiest, most refreshing drink i have had in a long time… and it’s actually good for me, imagine that!!

Ditch the Disposables

Amy over at Crunchy Domestic Goddess has issued a new challenge for Sept/Oct 2008 – ditch the disposables! she’s urging us to think about simple, every day things that we could change. Things like using cloth napkins instead of paper, using your kitchen dishes instead of paper/styrofoam, switching to cloth diapers if dipes are still part of your world… there are several other ideas that you can find on her blog.

personally i’m taking up the challenge in a couple of ways that i’ll start in the coming weeks, one of which is making some cloth napkins for us to use at mealtimes.

oh for pete's sake

right at this moment it is raining so hard i can hardly see across the street to my neighbor’s house. will it EVER stop raining like this? no such thing as a nice light sprinkling for us valley dwellers, no sirree… it’s flood warnings or nothing!!

some day i want to live where it only rains occasionally.

on this day in history

in 1608 – Quebec City was founded by Samuel de Champlain
in 1775 – George Washington took command of the Continental Army at Cambridge MA
in 1863 – the Battle of Gettysburg ended
in 1890 – Idaho became the 43rd state
in 1962 – Tom Cruise was born
in 1971 – Jim Morrison died
in 2004 – this blog was launched

but most importantly on this day in 1999, we got married! Happy Anniversary to us!

ah, sweet summer

summer is here! it really is! just like the magical neighbourhood wild turkey is a harbinger of spring, i know it’s summer when Starbucks begins offering really lovely fruity drinks such as the oh-so-wonderful Orange Creme. Brian thought i’d enjoy it more than flowers… *sigh* it’s nice to have a husband who knows me so well!

p.s. there is a new Paul McCartney album out at Starbucks… next week i would like that more than flowers :D

it gets in your blood

when i started working at YRP all those many moons ago, an Inspector told me that police work was more than just a job, it was a way of life and it gets in your blood. well, he was right. i fell in love with my job and it just about killed me to actually write my letter of resignation.

since we moved to Albany, a peculiar thing has happened to me quite often. whenever i see a police car go racing by lights and sirens, i have an urge to dispatch! i have this crazy need to know where that unit is going and why! at first i thought i was a little nuts – but i realize that it probably won’t go away any time soon. it’s most definitely in my blood.
