Goals for 2012

Have you set some goals for 2012?  I have.  I think that everyone should set goals.  If you don’t set goals, you can lose out on every bit of potential in becoming who God wants you to be.

I recently preached a message on setting goals that line up with God’s goals which you can listen to here.

But enough shameless self promotion.  Here are my goals for 2012:

  • Read 52 books over the year, one a week.
  • Start a seeker small group.  I’ve been reading Garry Poole’s book Seeker Small Groups and I’m fascinated by the idea of this.
  • Play more with Josh.  We don’t play enough together, and I want to do that more by focusing on specific time with him.
  • Romance my wife.  I chose her 12 years ago, and I want to let her know that I still choose her by pursuing her as if we were dating.
  • Pay off all credit card and car loans.  This one is a long shot but we’ll see.
  • Phone people on their birthday.  I usually send cards once a month to the people in my church and phone the people closer to me.  This year, I’ll expand that list.  I’m adding reminders into Google Calendar and Remember the Milk every month now.
  • Blog bi-weekly.  This one is a long shot but we’ll see.

What goals have you set for growth in 2012?

Love this time of year

Football, baseball playoffs, hockey about to start…..

Gotta love it. Now if the leaves falling would just rake themselves.

PS – Do you have in the playoffs? I’m rooting for Roy Halladay the Phillies.

How’s Your Year Shaping Up

Cliff Cline is a good friend and a great leader.  He recently wrote a new post on evaluating the progress of your life goals.  Here’s a portion of how to do it:

Maybe you have made plans, maybe you haven’t, but whether you have or not, the days are passing by.

One of the things that can help you assess things is a picture. A graph, a shape or something that represents what you were trying to accomplish against what you actually have.

Money Saving and Mom?

Came across a very interesting site via Beth Runkel’s FB question about finding a good coupon site online.  One of the suggestions was for Moneysavingmom.com.

It looks like a great site with lots of local coupons.  I’m no mom (I don’t fit the gender requirements) but it looks pretty good!  I especially loved the section about living simply and earning/managing money!  If you get a chance, check it out!

Question:  What coupon saving websites have you used?  How have they helped or hurt your finances?

Anything for Love

Came across this post about the crazy things we do for love by Justin Davis.  Here’s a clip:

When we were dating, we would do the craziest things to be with one another. We would stay up late at night talking on the phone. We would playfully argue about who was going to hang up first. “No, you hang up.” “No, you hang up.” (Don’t pretend you didn’t do that.) We would go out of our way to see each other between classes even if we didn’t have class in the same building.

Decision Trap

While perusing my Google Reader feed, I came across this great post by Jenni Catron on things to remember when making decisions (especially tough decisions).  Great truth in this post.  Here’s a clip:

If you make decisions too slowly, you frustrate your team.  If you make decisions too hastily, you may make an unwise or uneducated decision.

It’s the decision trap.

And learning to master the trap is the mark of a good leader.
